3 points does affect your insurance
I got three points back in July for overtaking a bus on an uphill stretch. SP30 £60 and the points. Gutted
Today having received my car insurance quote for next year, I called in to tell them of the change (apparently I should have done this at the time?), an extra £45 on my policy this year, that's almost 12%! I wonder if the police are working with the insurance companies to generate revenue, I'll be paying this penalty for the next 3/4 years. Last edited by Kameloil; 30-11-2011 at 10:51 AM.. |

I got 3 points last year - car insurance went up slightly but bike insurance (through H&R) they just noted it and didn't charge any more at all.

I don't know what speed you overtook at, but I'm guessing that it wasn't particularly excessive or prolonged.
So with the fine and the insurance hike thats over £200, for a minor technical transgression that probably caused no danger at all to other road users and maybe even did a little to ease traffic congestion. Oh, oh ! I feel a rant coming on. |

I informed my car insurer of a 3 pointer (SP30 - again) and my premium came down!! I reduced the annual mileage by 5000 and that outweighed the increase for the points.
Called bike insurers and they noted it - and that was it! If you don't inform your insurer of any new convictions you are giving them the easiest cop out in the book if you have to make a claim...... |

LOL Martin.
I also had a big hike in insurance this year, and I didn't get caught for any of my offences... I think everything has been on the increase in general. |

i have 3 points too (TS20), but it made almost no difference to my insurance premium, the problem i encountered was going to a multibike policy and ending the other insurance which deemed expensive

I'm curious...if you've had a speeding ticket that allows you to do one of these awareness courses instead of the points do you still have to report it to the insurers?
This was a while ago when I changed to digital clocks on the old bike, expensive way to find out that the instructions for calibrating the speedo were wrong! They're actually not too bad, waste of an evening and you still pay the fine but I remember plenty of hot chocolate and biscuits |
