M600 bleed nipple size(s)
Hi Folks,
In my continued quest to tidy up an old M600 I'd like to replace the scabby bleed nipples on both clutch and brakes. Does anyone know what the thread sizes are? I'm assuming M10. Thanks in advance! Nik |

I really ought to just get off my backside, go to the garage, and measure them!
But thank you, appreciate your reply. |

It depends what calipers you have fitted. Fronts are usually M8 and afaik have always been over the various calipers fitted but rear ones could be M8 or M10. My '02 S4 has M8 front and M10 rear, which caught me out when ordering replacements. I got off my backside and made it to the garage but there was just too much junk to move in order to measure those on my 748 but I'm sure they are M8 same as front. It was just the S4 that was a weird mixture of both.

Having been stuck in front of the computer while all the kids in my street "self isolate" in the sunshine all day, I'll be sure to wheel the Monster out tomorrow, possibly ensure it starts and runs (it sounds so good - I'm doing my bit of mental health), and while I'm at it I can unscrew the bleed nipples and cast a vernier caliper across them.
Thanks guys! |

Don't just measure hex size as I think the M10 ones have an M8 hex too, just to confuse things. Take it out and measure the thread width. If like my S4 the rear brake nipple is on top of the caliper, if you're careful you can do this without having to re-bleed it, you don't even need to take it out completely.

Yes, I'll measure the thread diameter - I don't mind taking them out as everything needs urgently bleeding anyway. The clutch is so bad it barely works - amazing how much air gets in over time.

If they've not been moved for a while I would give them a good soak in releasing oil like plus gas for a day or two and you're gonna replace the fluid anyway? The standard clutch slaves leak like a bitch, if you have the later 600 with the external slave better aftermarket ones are the way to go. If not you're kinda stuck with the crappy standard one.

I left them with penetrating spray on over the weekend, and cracked the threads on them all last night. I was certainly concerned about rounding off, or worse, snapping one off!
As for the clutch slave, mine's the early type. I'll be trying hard not to dribble fluid all over the engine case - last time I bled one of these I managed to take the paint off! |
