I'd be very surprised if that wasn't stolen.
Already gone beyond a viable price anyway....Very expensive motorbike!!

Would probably make a good donor bike for parts maybe? Could be a potential money pit restoration but it does appear to be mostly cosmetic/detritus but it's getting close to that sort of tipping point price already with 4 bidders. The 750 is a cracking little bike though way better than the 600 for the money, so lets hope someone saves it? Jerry?

Living in Spain, I can tell you all anything to do with documents for vehicles, and the transfer of them, is an expensive mess. If it was Spanish plated, and the VIN will tell You, I would stay WELL clear, even if it is legal... If it was UK plated, why can the documents be duplicated? Ringing every alarm bell I have...

See if the vendor is willing to supply the VIN numbers. I'm betting he'll not in which case I would say it's probably a stolen bike.

I think so Under the crud it's a straight, low miles example, matching numbers, needs very little work but I've changed the belts (originals still on it & in as new condition but hey, it's 22 years old & you never know... Oil service & filters plus a new battery and it runs beautifully... So now I wait for the DVLA, they reckon 12-16 weeks for a reggo The guy selling it was a titled gentleman & it was a rich boy's toy until he decided he was bored of it As soon as I get the V5c I'll hit it with a few sensible bits, braided hoses, uprated brakes, sticky tyres, Akraprovic etc... (OK maybe not THAT sensible) It'll sit nice with my Triumph, BSA, GSX-R1100, Aprilia RS125, Cagiva 521 & several others I won't go into Surface rust on the frame that'll clean but sadly the engine casings will need vapour blasting & repainting It might be next spring before I get to enjoy it but I think it'll be worth it (as long as I don't go completely crackers trying to decypher Ducati part numbers...) |

Welcome to the club Cure4sanity.
Sounds like you know what you're up to. I reckon you're probably the best thing that's happened to that bike? Hope you got it for a bargain price. You do allude to that, so I hope so. As you can tell from this thread we doubted the provenance, but you seem to be happy with it, so good luck with the registration. Did you have to replace the ignition switch and fuel cap?

I'd looked at getting a cheap CHinese lock set but after a word with a locksmith mate of mine managed to get a genuine Ducati blank for £2.50 & he took the lock to pieces to make the key fit plus cut a couple of spares for £41, so in all maybe a couple of quid dearer than buying an aftermarket lockset (of unknown quality!) but a lot less buggering about & much less than the £250 Alexander (the previous owner) had been quoted I deal in used cars/classics but occasionally get a nice bike or two to sell on (hence the purchase of the GSX-R1100) and this is what I originally had in mind for the Monster but the more I consider what it's cost me (so far) and what I'd like to do to it, I think it's going to make a nice little B road weapon. Plus I get my trade discount on consumables & labour if I don't fancy doing a job myself so in my mind I've got a bargain I normally rely on the Daytona for that but after 50 miles it feels like you're sitting on a cold plank with a nail in it so for longer jaunts this would be the more arse friendly option But all this only happens when I get the V5c for it, no point spending a couple of grand on bits if it's never going to see the road again... |
