Brake/Clutch Lever upgrade…
Bit of a newbie question, but just wondered whether anyone has changed the stock brake and clutch levers on their 821 for the brembo levers found on the 1200S?
Could you give me an idea of the practicality of doing this and a rough idea of cost and any additional bits required? I know that this would also require changing the cable clutch to a hydraulic too. |

The levers aren't interchangable between the two.

Lars is right, you'd have to convert the bike to a hydraulic clutch.
A major engineering job. It might theoretically be possible but I imagine it would be cheaper to buy a 1200. |

Hello plingboot, and welcome.
I'm not sure how the 821 cable clutch is configured, but there is a relatively simple device that might help you no end. The little slaves can be had for as little as a fiver. I'll just let the pictures do the talking. You'll get the idea.

Giving my last post a bit more thought..
You will need to match the piston sizes in the master and slave to retain the same mechanical advantage of the cable system. The little conversion slaves usually use a 13mm piston. I doubt the 1200 master has a 13mm piston, but I have no idea. Another route you could investigate, is to look at Scramblers, which I believe have cable clutches also... Maybe there are some compatible aftermarket levers for those that would fit your bike?

Thanks for the replies.
I don't have the bike yet - hoping to make a spring 2020 purchase. I've been 'trying' to calculate the cost for everything I want/need so I only buy once and don't get into the (my) usual trap of buying the bike then spending a fortune in 'upgrades' for it - most of which will be to satisfy my eye rather for any required performance needs. Fast coming to the conclusion that I'll be better holding on until I can afford the 1200S. |

Levers wise I tend to buy evotech aftermarket ones.
You'd probably be able to pick up a used 1200s with some nice mods already on it to take the sting out of it......That's what I tend do; look for nice bikes that have lots of extras. They tend to hang around longer because most people chase 'factory' bikes thus leading to a potential good deal. I myself stick to the saying 'factory sucks'......probably get me hung in a Ducati forum tho :chuc kle: |
