New to London
Hi everybody, just arrived from the states. Looks like you've got a great community here on the forum, can't wait to join in some of the monster-ing fun.
Just waiting on the movers to bring my '04 R1200C and '12 1100 EVO. In the meantime I'm just getting settled. Currently working on my drivers license and then will tackle the motorcycle direct access. Should be done with all that and the importation by Feb/Mar. So if the house chain doesn't fall through I should be moving into a house in the Chigwell/Hainaut area, taking delivery on my bikes and getting back in the saddle about that time. Currently in Wanstead, any members in the area? Any good rides you can recommend? I've got a few "must see's" already, the Ace Cafe, Isle of Man TT... Etc. Thanks Alan, sounds like fun, I'll keep my eyes peeled. Are they usually ride in events?

Hello and welcome. Is is cheaper to move your bikes rather than buy a bike here? I'm always looking for an excuse to buy something new and an intercontinental move sounds as good an excuse as any
Lots going on in the south east so keep an eye out. |

For me it was, I'm sure that it would make more sense for most to just buy their bikes here, but the company owed me a move so there really isn't any cost out of pocket other than taxes etc.

Feb/March is about the time of year the activity in the club picks up, so sounds like your bikes should be here at the right time. There are plenty of cracking roads to ride in Essex/Hertfordshire/Suffolk/Norfolk, that's without going south of the Thames! There are monthly meets in London and Kent. Keep an eye out on the forum for events the club attends and ride outs. There are several big Italian events in the south, especially around Easter and on into May/June. Just up the road from you is high beech, which is a popular bike meet spot on a weekend. I can't recall anyone from the forum who lives near you, but from a geographical scale point of view, based on the distances you would travel in the states from town to town, there are plenty members, including myself, who live near by. I'm only 30 miles away! Best of luck with obtaining your drivers licence....can you not ride on an international driving licence until you pass your test? A good way of joining in straight away would be to pop along to the London Xmas meal and have a beer with us.

I'm not 100% sure on the motorcycle license side of things but for the car I get 12 months on the U.S. license before I'm required to get the full UK one so I might as well go ahead and do it now. I would assume it's the same for the bikes. |

Welcome to the club and you're in the right part of the South East to get involved as much as you like when the bikes are up and running. If you need any advice in the meantime just let us know.

Hello good evening and welcome.
Yes you get 12 months, bike and cars presuming your US licence covers those https://www.gov.uk/driving-nongb-licence |
