fire & theft ONLY insurance needed!
Hi guys,
im having a problem finding somebody to insure a new bike im looking at buying for a period of 3 months while its in the garage and im not riding it but still using my monster. you see i have roughly 50 days left until a previous conviction runs out which i was stupid enough to aquire almost 5 years ago, until these next 50 days pass my insurance on the new bike is ridiculous and everybody i speak to understands im nearly in the clear but have that 'computer says no' attitude. The deal may be too good to pass up and so i wanna buy it anyway, just want it insured against theft from my garage until i can then take up bennetts on the fully comp offer they made me 'without' a conviction in the past 5 years, Thne i will ride it on the road. its an 848 by the way wooooot |

Its a long shot, but try your home/contents insurance. Some companies will endorse a policy to cover trails bikes (for example) for theft only . Needs to be a pretty flexible insurance company though.
Norwich Union might do a "laid up" policy like they do on cars...its complicated though. Failing that, invest in a big heavy chain and bolt it to the floor or wall! |

Interesting you're getting a good deal, are they not shifting? |

Have a look around there are some companies that insure vehicles especially bikes for just theft if kept in a garage, the cover was originally designed for summer bikers who don't get their bike out of the garage but still need to make sure that there is insurance should anything happen.
If not insure the vehcile in someone else name for the next 3 months |

Adam has a good point with getting someone else to insure it. Only problem is the bike would have to be registered in the name of the other person who insured it. If the bike gets nicked the first thing insurers want is the V5 and they check the bike is registered to the policyholder before they will pay out. You know insurance companies, they will wriggle out of a claim if they can!

Its a right pain in the arse this, seems nobody interested in seeing things as they are and only in black and white, they know damn well in less than 2 months i can ring back and get insured for miles less than half what they currently quote but still insist on offering me a 12 month policy now at the higher price. sods |

I can't remember why but I did look into this before and it was to tide me over until I got another years no claims or something. So I phoned up saying that I would be emigrating in two months time so I only need a policy until I emigrated (or something similar). If the refund policy is fair, you could then do a payment plan over 3 months or something so you don't have to pay all the cash up front etc. This may be cheaper in the ling run. The other alternative is track bike insurance - natty boy gave me a number once of specialist insurers. They cover fire and theft only. Ask on the DSC or similar if you don't get any joy here. S |

I seem to remember somewhere in the dim and distant past you could get short term cover notes for vehicles. Don't insurance companies do this anymore? Have you tried people like Carole Nash or Bennets? Specialist bike insurers?

Damon, buddy, pal, great bloke....... stick it in the back of a van and drive it to my work place, im sure it will be safe and sound there! (you can leave it uninsured there, until your indiscretion is off your licence!) - dont worry, no-one would dream of nicking it from my work!
