Gear linkage
Guys can I ask a favour!
Can somebody with an evo take a pic of the gear shift rod from the top down to check if it runs at an angle in wards. Also does the part that connects to the splines have the smooth part to the back or front and as such causes the captive nut to be at the front? Thanks again guys |

So the rod should run to the inside with the nut so the bolt would slide through. So that’s cool. Except mines has had the nut put on the wrong side and forced in to the recess and won’t come out. So the nut is essentially on the outside with the bolt on the inside with the rod pivot. I’ll take a pic tomorrow to show you. I’m just wondering if my rear sets make the rod run at too much of an angle inwards. It’s been like this for 15k miles I’ve only really noticed it as I’ve always wanted the gear lever slightly further down and the rod was always getting towards the end of its adjustment so then I tried to move the part on the splines and suddenly noticed the pinch bolt couldn’t go back in as it fouled the casing. |

If you can remove the arm from the spline and the gear change rod, can you drift the nut out from the opposite side?

If you press down on the lever and unscrew the pinch bolt if it won’t come out as is in its current format you could then swap it round. Just went for a look and the pinch bolt on my evo and rod connection look like Luddite’s. Whilst there I undid cracked all the fastenings ready for impending rearsets but will have a thread on that shortly I hope.

As you can see that nut is stuck and won’t budge so I’ll need to live with it on the outside. No biggie really. Only thing that looks odd is the angle of the shift rod, don’t know if that’s normal though because I’ve never paid too much attention to it. And thinking back it’s been in bits for servicing multiple times so how knows if them or me has done that. So I’m going to run it as is…can’t see any issues with the rod angle due to the pivots at the end and it moves nice and freely. I also have a nice shift angle for my foot now |

Replace the M6 x 1 bolt but don't tighten it - insert it just enough to engage the threads of the nut leaving a gap between the bolt head and arm. Support the arm either side of the nut and whack the bolt head. That should dislodge the nut. |

at rest: as close to a right-angle as possible, at both ends for smoothest operation

Success, Nut dislodged....all fitted correctly....Still an angle on the shift rod tho. Maybe supposed to be like that, I'll run it and see if it's ok.
