Hello
Thank you for adding me, I have a 1998 Monster 600 that I bought as a non runner. The hoses for the breather and return from/to the fuel tank have been removed and are missing. My questions are where do they go as I can't see anything obvious, does the breather have an in line one way valve ? and does the return hose come from the carbs, vacuum fuel pump or somewhere else, as I said I can't see anything obvious, I hope that someone can help please.

However. Welcome aboard, one the resident technical experts will be along shortly and help out. The first thing with any Ducati before turning it over is belts attention. How long have they been on and are they within service time period, if not they need replaced as priority no1 |

Welcome to the forum.
They usually join in a ‘Y’ piece under the tank, the single hose then runs down the right hand side between the engine and swingarm, past the rear brake fluid reservoir and behind the footrest hanger. There mat be a wire loop on the r/h exhaust collector bracket for it to pass through and prevent it from melting on the pipe. Last edited by slob; 01-11-2020 at 08:02 PM.. |

Hi the cam belts were the first job I did as it has been standing for quite a while. I think that perhaps I didn't explain very well, do the breather and return exit holes from the tank join in a y piece and the exit as you explain or are we perhaps talking at crossed purposes?

Sorry Jon, I may have mislead you, the Y connection is on later injected models.
You shouldn't have a return on a carbed bike. Two thin hoses: breather & filler neck drain (which could be combined or not) no one-way valve. One fatter hose to a filter, which then goes on to the pump/carbs via a tap. One eletrical connection to the fuel level sender (large nut) Does this help? although it's from the pre'97 600. Otherwise maybe an owner of a late model 600 can chime in. |

Hi thanks it makes a lot more sense now seeing that the two exits from the bottom of the tank go to the filler cap and not just inside the tank. I don't have a fuel tap on mine though, I assume that this is correct on a 1998 model.

Think the later M600 used a vaccum operated fuel "tap" located under the tank hinge at the back of the tank? Vacuum provided from the inlet manifold, also operating the fuel pump ...

If yours doesn’t have the manual fuel tap like the very early bikes then it probably looks something like this:
You’re probably already aware but make sure the vacuum pipes are sound as fuel supply from the vacuum tap and pump can get marginal due to age and the effects of Ethanol in modern petrol. The fuel pump can be brought back from the dead with a refurb kit from Allens performance but the tap has to be replaced by a Ducati part of you want to keep it all original.
