Welcome aboard! Stick an oil filled radiator in the garage and do some polishing while the roads are salty.

Pictures please.

Welcome - With this exceptionally cold snap it is going to be a few weeks before you get to ride it so maybe stick it on an Optimate (other brands are available) in the meantime.

Welcome-well there's no excuse not to ride it - took mine for its MOT today. First time I've ridden it other than round the block. Exceedingly cold but roads were dry.

Don't blame you - I was out cycling today (on studded tyres!) and it was -3șc when I set off. Think I'll wait til it's warmer before getting the Monster out.

Non runner

Thanks for all the welcomes! Not running at moment, as I found out when trying to go for a short trip. Hope it's the battery. I can't believe the amount of dismantling needed to get to the battery!

While you're charging the battery fit an Optimate or similar pigtail connection to the terminals so in future you can charge/maintain the battery remotely.

I'm just about to do this.
Bike kept in shipping container away from home with no power.
JUST started at the weekend after not being touched for three months!
Going to connect to solar trickle charger.
AFAIK, battery is original - over 7 years old, so maybe I should fit a new one whilst I'm at it!

We've been having all these recent discussions about how the latest version of the Monster has deviated so far from the original Monster philosophy ='simple bike'

I think we've forgetten that it has been doing that for many years, since the MKII version! I mean it looks simple enough on the outside, until you need to get to the battery!

I would like to encourage the motorcycle press to include comparative timings for new bikes for reasonably foreseeable maintenance tasks, change a battery, change the plugs, change the oil and air filter.
Extending the valve check mileages or belt renewal time/distances will have little value to the owner if there is a poor design "tax" because you have to spend 2 hours dismantling to get access
