Exhaust rubbing on swingarm ???
almost finished rebuild of 750ss but refitting the exhaust system , the termis are rubbing on swingarm ,, they never used to there was alway 5-6mm clearance both sides.
Nothing has changed all pipes , cans , mounts etc same as before , i have wiggled, pushed ,pulled, adjusted , tapped with rubber mallet etc but still both cans touch swing arm ??? any ideas ????

If it was me I would undo all the exhaust mounting bolts from the head and particularly the junction below the SA, making sure all the pipe connections are free to rotate/swivel, then loosely assemble and bolt the cans up first with an 9mm sheet of ply between the SA and the can then tighten forward and hope the "set" caused by the ply resolves the issue.
I think the join most likely to be causing the issue is between the rear header and the cruciform beneath the SA. |

I think the main header pipe may be from a monster not 750ss maybe the are narrower for monster ?????

I'm pretty sure you can't fit a Monster exhaust to an SS and vice versa, due to way the rear pipe passes through the swinging arm.
I was going to fit a monster swinger to an SS but also had to change to a Monster exhaust for that reason. They exit at different angles into the silencers too, so you also have to use the appropriate silencers. I'd try turning the silencer brackets over and then try the the silencers on opposite sides. Unlikely, but might work?

before I took the bike apart the left hand side always had up to 10mm clearance from swing arm but the right hand one needed care as it only had 5mm clearance and was a fiddly blighter to fit as it liked touching the swingarm , but now there is zero clearance both sides?????
If i cant solve this the termis will have to go and a pair of shorty reverse cone megas from an old trumpet would fit with lots of clearance ,, maybe the gods of noise is calling me ?????

I'm pretty sure that the answer to your problem is to use a bigger hammer.
Back in the day I had a 55 Blunderturd(Thunderbird) that needed the s/arm bushes replacing, the manual simply said drift out the spindle with a hammer, well could I get it to shift, could I f... then a friend suggested the bigger hammer strategy, so when armed with a 10lb sledge hey presto it did indeed drift out, easy. Best of luck with that.

The exhaust has been expensively Ceramic coated so I wont be using a massive hammer , i have been making some measurements and its definitely not the right main pipe section its 12 mm narrower overall than one on monster and the bend up to the X over is steeper by 12dg ,, but it is the original that I took off the bike unless it was swopped ????

Yes, but the SS system is different to a Monster anyway, by quite a lot.
Can you space out the pillion footrest hangers? or bend the silencer brackets? Or a bit of both? You can easily alter the left/right bias of the system by slackening off all the clamps a little and nudging it sideways, but leave the silencers done up tight while doing this as otherwise you won't learn anything. I have to wiggle my Monster system up symmetrical every time it's off. (Which is quite often.)

I took the exhaust off and looked at the stamped on part numbers on each of the 2 pipe section , then went to 750ss parts Fiche and catalogue
The part number for the exhaust pipes on the 750 ss is 57010151A ZDM-M10 for the long x over pipe and 57110151A ZDM-N10 for the short rear pipe . So it is the correct exhaust system for the 1991 750ss, so now im doubly confused why its not fitting correctly ,, i have had this system on and off the bike many times over last 16 years ,, with the same Termi end cans but it is a relief to know I have the correct parts as Monster look similar but have different part numbers and dimension 57010291A & .57110191A
