Searching for a bracket to fit a high mounted exhaust

Does anybody know where I can buy a bracket (or two) for a high mounted exhaust can on a Monster 600 ? I assume the bracket would fit onto the trellis frame and suspend the hanging strap from it in order to support the exhaust. Cheers.

Are you sure you can route the exhaust pipes so that they don’t fry your legs or backside?

The OEM brackets are aluminium plate, bent to suit and bolt under the undertray, through the lock mechanism.

There are 2 of them, 1 left, 1 right IIRC you could fit just the one if you only have 1 can?

Not sure if still available from Ducati though? Wouldn't be too difficult to make something if not.

You can see the left side on this pic of mine, M600 will be the same as M900

.

Yes I did consider something similar where the bracket attaches to the trellis frame ... I wasn't sure if it would hold the can securely enough. Guess it's ok if you have managed to do it. Sounds like an easier solution to get the bits. Thanks.

My 900 had high level Remus pipes and silencers when I first bought it, but I soon hoiked them off and sold them. I can't remember even riding it with those as they were too loud and made it look like a wheelbarrow.

They were held on with P-clips as I recall and attached to the grab handles rather than the seat rail I think?
Be aware that the hugger uses up pretty much all the space available under the seat undertray when on full bounce, so try and avoid bracketry that goes under the tray if you can.
Also there is not enough room behind the footrest hangars for the pipes if they are to miss the hugger and swinging arm, so spacers are needed between frame/engine and the hangers.
They will be about 25mm diameter with 10mm holes for the engine and 8mm for the frame.
Thickness will be in the region of 10mm depending on how much room you need to gain.

Thanks Gary, lots of useful and important points to consider there. The spacers in particular so I'll investigate that when I start .... I'm planning this as a winter project after the MOT but I'll definitely try and avoid the wheelbarrow appearance !

The couple of monsters I have had with high mounted exhausts had pretty simple top mounts, essentially an aluminium strap, shaped to go over the top of the frame rails, and the cans hung from that. One set was silmoter, the other mivvi. As Gary has said, spacers needed to get clearance.

Thanks that makes sense. Yes the spacers you and Gary mention seem to be essential in the fitting. I assume it is for the 2 bolts on the footpeg hanger and the 2 bolts on the engine/brake pedal support ? Doe this mean I need to get longer bolts to accommodate the spacers ?

Yes it does.
And they're specials so not easy to obtain.
There are other ways to make up a composite fastener though.
I believe Gazza looked into this a few years back but I couldn't find the old thread.
Maybe he'll be along with more info presently.

Ah! just seen this.
The short answer is that you might not need longer bolts, but it's something to check for sure.

The left side engine bolts are a little longer than the right side ones due to the side stand bracket already holding the left hanger off a bit further. It's possible that you might not even have to space the left side bottom.
So if you need longer ones on the right, then it might be possible to get some left side ones. (trying not to call them left hand to avoid confusion, they are all RH thread.)
Moto Rapido would almost certainly be able to source those.
If requiring longer 8mm shoulder bolts for the upper mounts then there may still be hope, as early models used one shoulder bolt to fix an earth strap and had room for a nut on the end. Perhaps these are available too?

The reason I made up some specials was that I discovered a previous owner had improvised (I'm being generous here!) some shoulder bolts by winding some insulation tape round some standard bolts.. Thanks whoever you are!
I rather liked the idea of the top hat adapters that were sold by TPO at the time, but they were very expensive, more so to get them from the US and now not in business I think?

My answer was to buy some 25mm aluminium bar and get a mate to turn some up to my design.
They mimic the shoulder @ 12.5mm diameter x 19mm long with a through hole 10mm clearance for a standard M10 bolt.
The head mimics the cup washers found on the oil cooler and headlamp mounts.
I made the counterbores for low cap heads, but I'm now thinking of a redesign using countersunk as I can't find any Ti low heads the right size.

The upper ones are sized for M8, but the shoulder length and head remains the same.

I've just read that they should have washers under the shoulders, which makes a lot of sense, since the bearing surface is a mere 1mm wide. I'm thinking as I type that a full set of thick washers from my 25mm bar would be good, including a little counterbore to support the end of the shoulder/top hat.

If I do commission another set with countersinks instead of counter bores and with special washers, I'll make some drawings and pass them on.
I could measure up my originals anyway if anyone wants the dims. The original drawings are held in cyber-limbo on a long inaccessible file!! Sorry.

The spare set of Termignoni ones I had were sold back in 2017.

I think Spuggy had them but I don't see it on the thread.

I don't even know if he is still around or has them. AFAIK they were only sold with the exhaust kits.

I have seen some on google that mount to the rear pillion pegs and use the clamp upside down but I don't know if that was a homemade solution.
