New Service Intervals
Just found this on Ducati site.

60 months for my evo belts now.
No detail on the service sheet that say how or why it’s changed! New belt technology? If so what’s the part no? |

Unfortunately, these extended service intervals only apply to the current models - older, discontinued lines, such as our 696/796/1100, should still, (in theory), be serviced in line with their original recommendations.

I suspected this might be the case.
If you follow the link, put in bike details (evo) it brings back a service sheet which states 60 months. My suspicion was that it’s a new test sheet for the water cooled ones and it’s a mistake probably by whoever uploads them or that. If not a mistake I’d like to know the full reasoning for the change. |

Guys just a quick update to stop any of us running belts too long.
If you search the link using model function. It comes back with a service sheet. But If you search by VIN number it says (for my evo) this model is not involved in this campaign. I think that’s Italian to English translation for ‘no you’re not getting 60 months belts’ Happy to be proved wrong tho. |

Belts and servicing
Somewhere on here is an interesting discussion which shows the timeline of the engine design from it's 1st siting in a 80s Elefant...(I think) where service intervals were a ridiculous 4k Kms ,from memory. Surely the advances in materials in belt construction and modern oils are the important part of the discussion ? The engines still spin round at similar revs....

I'll do some ringing round tomorrow.
The section where you enter the VIN no. appears to be for any recall campaign there might be. It does say they have extended the intervals for all services. I filled in my (696) bike details and got a sheet with lots of specifics about my bike model at the bottom and with the extended service periods. Maybe it's a cock-up though!

Moto Rapido confirmed today that a belt change is now 5 years, not two, for my bike!
I emailed the service sheet I downloaded to Ducati UK for further confirmation, not heard back yet.

It'd be great news if that's the case, Maggsy.
I wouldn't be surprised at the extended belt intervals because my "two year" Evo belt is the exact same one with a five year life on the 1100 Scrambler. (And I run mine for four years already.) I would be surprised if the valve service intervals were extended though. |

It's a bit confusing as for a 696 etc the chart states "Mileage Service DESMO" every 15K miles, but valve clearances are also part of the "Mileage Service OIL" which is every 7500K miles. (Although Oil and filter change is also annually)! The intervals are slightly longer for 821s and 1200s.

Just had email from Ducati UK.
"The latest Transparent Service Sheet is correct and the timing belts should be changed at 15,000 miles or 5 years" This refers to my 696 but it's dead easy to download the sheet for your own model to see if anything's changed for you.

Hi guys.
Just to add confusion and panic to this particular topic. I contacted my local Ducati service centre and the person I spoke to still thought it was two years and that it had only moved (always been 5) for newer bikes. And was kind of disbelieving of my info. But still very good service from them and they asked me for the link to the service sheet and the pdf if I could. Which I have now sent by email so just waiting on a reply. They are going to contact the factory directly and get back to me. I wasn’t questioning or doubting anybody’s research from here. It’s more a quandary about why the change has came about; belt part no change as an example. Then it kind of snowballed a wee bit. |
