hello to all from a newbie, not to dukes but monsters. proud owner of 2003 s4r in red at present but shes booked in to the paint shop for a full spruce up in tricolor scheme with a little twist. already had much appreciated help from ali on here re a decat pipe to be rid of the dreaded bladder. looking forward to the summer and hopefully a meet up with like minded individuals? ttfn ian.

I don't know what you mean. Us aircooled bunch wouldn't say anything to you poor deluded watercooled lot because we're a nice bunch and you're probably feeling really bad and beating yourself up about buying the wrong monster anyway so we wouldn't want to remind you of this because you'd get all upset that you've spent a hoooooge amount of cash just to lug a great big lump of cast iron with 147 gallons of water sloshing around inside upsetting the handling and stunting the performance of a desirable (when aircooled) performance motorcycle.

yeah ur right, tbh i do miss my aircooled beast, but i dont miss the power of the s4r!! lol

An excellent bit of not-mentioning, Blah.
However, you did omit to not-mention the unnecessary opening and closing of four extra valves, the stone-prone, low,slung oil-cooler, the masses of sensors and electricks, short-lived, dry clutch and technically flawed, single side swingarm.
Just thought I'd better not-add those to the list....just to be on the safe side.

But seriously, welcome....and great choice, they must be awesome..... I've never tried. Not sure whether its the power or the maintenance bills which scares me most.
...Drat, I meant to not-mention the high maintenance costs too....sorry.

looked at aircooled but quite like the mechanics of the 996 engine after having a 749s, must be bit of a sadist! nice to have the banter of air v water though at least we all agree ducati? yes will post before and after pics shortly, as shes in the paint shop next week. maint no prob will spin the spanners myself. grew up on 70s kawasakis!!

I might as well wade into the discussion.
Firstly hello. It's a great club and very active. Get yourself on my Trackday list for July 1st and the National meeting on May 29th.

Secondaly,
Plumbing Rocks. I have the 998 Testastretta engine, wouldn't wan't anything else, couldn't put up with the lack of power on the air-cooled Monsters...
An new 1100 Monster produces 95 bhp.
My S4R produces 140 bhp.

And when you've got my fat a*se on the bike no one looks at the plumbing.

Glad to hear that you'll be spannering it yourself. Its the only way.
Just like a special girl, treat her with respect, keep her clean (but not too clean), and do all the servicing yourself.

Tricolore with a twist, eh?
I'm in a similar situation myself....will be interesting to see your take on it.
....notice, I avoided saying "you show me yours and I'll show you mine". That would have been one innuendo too far.
