New to Ducati
Hi all,
Just coming back to biking after 2 years in hospital (non bike RTA). Never had a Ducati in 35 years riding (the shame!), and last 3 road bikes were Triumphs. Got a red 796 and am near Basingstoke, and have been busy on this forum gleaning on Exhausts, Fuelling & suspension. So Thanks all posters ..... Cheers Starla |

Don't worry about all the non-Ducati years - you've tried the rest, now you've got the best! As you're near Basingstoke, you're not too far from Moto Rapido in Winchester. You'll get 10% discount there on your spares, accessories and clothing as a member of UKMOC. If you've already been trawling through the forum, you'll have noticed lots of recommendations for Neil at Cornerspeed and his postal remapping service http://cornerspeed.co.uk/tuning.php If you're at all bothered by lumpy low-speed running, he should be your first port of call. Welcome to the forum Starla, two years in Hospital, you must have taken a good beating, hope you are fully recovered. What Triumphs did you have, I have a 955 Speed triple.

Hi & Thanks for all welcoming comments.
Google "man mistaken for scarecrow" and you'll see about the RTA. 4 months in NHS, plus in/out of Private after, 34 fractures, 10 Ops and counting....... Previous Triumphs were 2 Thunderbird 900s and 1 Tiger 800. LOTS of off-road stuff of all makes -Husky 450 was my fave (see a bit of Italiana!!) Thanks for info on Moto Rapido. I've been there - didn't know about the 10% - cheers - how do I prove UKMOC "membership" - take a copy of this post ??? My local dealer is Snells in Alton (nice people generally), who've done things on my previous Triumphs. BUT, I want to get the M796 Dyno-Ed and they don't do that. They sent me off on a wild goose chase to Leatherhead to a tuners who don't do Monsters. I'll call Moto Rapido. I've read all the posts on Cornerspeed, but my bike is tricky for a send away service. It has the Ducati Performance ECU and Termignonis. Low rev running is truly awful. As the pipes were SO LOUD, I put some genuine-Termignoni baffles in. Still sounds great, but now runs EVEN worse. I think I'd rather have it Dyno-Ed, and I'm not riding up to Cornerspeed !! But would love to hear the forum's ideas on that ...... Secondly, I read Luddite's "Spring has sprung" thread, and I'd like to change the progressive spring on my rear Sachs unit to a linear 105Nm Ohlins Spring, as he suggests (I'm same riding weight). Hopefully this will stop the bike pogo-ing, and hopefully Moto Rapido will source and do the change !!! I'm off to ring them now........ Thanks Chris D, Luddite and All ............... Starla |

Don't rule out Neil's postal reflash - I have the DP filter and airbox lid plus Termis on my Evo and the Rexxer reflash helped to transform the low-speed running.
Granted, an off-the-shelf reflash is never going to match a bespoke remap, (I've promised myself one one day), but it'll be 95% as effective. There are a couple of Rexxer maps available to suit different set-ups so give Neil a ring to seek his advice. You could also try lowering the gearing, which helps with town riding. Note that the 796 and Evo share a lightweight flywheel, (half the weight of the older 1100), and this also contributes to the low-speed lumpiness. If for any reason Moto Rapido can't get one, try Mark Hammond at MH Racing 01249 721001 www.mhracing.com. The spring should be around £75. If you want to fit it yourself, you can borrow my spring compressors! |

+1 on the postal reflash service offered by Neil at Cornerspeed. I have an Evo with DP ECU, carbon termis and baffles and I had mine done during the summer. It's well documented on here.
Admittedly, it hasn't been the complete solution I was hoping for, but it HAS improved the situation. I'm probably going to stick a 14T on the front, and by 'me' I mean whomever services it next. I have no patience for fettling! Last edited by Uncle Bob; 23-10-2019 at 02:29 PM.. |
