Headlamp/ lazer!

Bought a new 100w bulb from ebay. Very bright with a hint of blue to the light, nice i thought... only thing is after a short time the headlamp glass gets so hot you cannot touch it. And the lens is not glass, its plastic. Now i'm guessing its a heat resistant unit, but to what point? Dont want to find the headlamp melted onto the mudguard after a longer ride! I haven't noticed how hot the original bulb got to, but i'm sure i've never burnt myself before! Anyone had a similar experience?

Will probably melt the plastic in time.

Virtually twice the power so would be hotter, still handy come the colder weather.

The connector block, wiring and switch gear would be my biggest concern

I've seen these overheat, melt and short out under load before now.. that 100W bulb will be pulling a lot more amps

I don't have personal experience, but I've heard lots of reports of high power replacement headlamp bulbs melting plastic lenses.
The std unit on my monster has a glass lens but was pretty feeble, so I took the cautious approach and replaced my bulb with a Philips X-treme, which is claimed to give 80% more light (latest design claims 100% more).
While it wasn't 80% better, it was nevertheless a worthwhile improvement, and being rated at the same power its unlikely to run much hotter (if any) than the std bulb.
A quick, cheap, simple improvement with no strings attached as far as I'm aware.

Phillips Xtreme are very very good , i tried a HID kit but it was worse so all my bike have phillips xtreme in now

Can't say for absolute certain, but not as far as I'm aware.
They're the same, 60/55watt rating as the std bulb.

Not hotter in my experience but a better design not halogen , uses XENON gives about 30% more brighter whiter light

I can recommend the PIAA Xtreme White Plus too, huge improvement on the originals. If I ever get round to doing the H4 bulb conversion on the new bike they'll be my first choice again Sounds like they're basically the equivalent of the Phillips ones
