Is that a special rear brake caliper modification? Not all 696's look the same after all!

I take that back! Just had some brain fade after looking at too many 796/1100's etc.

PS it's only just sunk in but I think your 696 is different!
You've got red bodywork on a black frame, which is unusual. As far as I remember, red bodywork came as standard with a red frame. Black frames sported black or white bodywork, so it looks like a previous owner has swapped out the tank and mudguard at some point. Looks good though. Have a look on the V5 to see if the original colour is still shown. |

Aha
Ooooo, I'll check that out as soon as I can get to it..... (I keep all my important docs in a safe next to my bed!)
I'll let you know. I may be 'special' after all! |

Black frame
@Luddite, checked my V5, it does say colour: Red
So, I wonder if it's standard or has it been changed via DVLA? hmmmm, nope, I'll say it's standard just so I CAN say it's special! ;-) Thanks for pointing it out though. |

I'm confused? If your V5 says it's red then I would have thought that meant it originally would have had a red frame too, since the 'red' option was for red frame and panels? As mentioned above, the black frame would have been on the black or white models, in which case the V5 would have said either white or black, no? I might be, and probably am, wrong.
Anyway, glad you're enjoying the 696. I used to have loads of fun on mine. OK it's not the most powerful thing on the road, but they are so light and 'chuckable' and just a massive laugh! |

Some bikes only give the colour of the tank, not the colour of the frame. Four of my bikes only give the colour of the tank (which is the same as the frame on the Ducat), only one has frame colour listed as a separate colour.

You would kind of expect the bike to be registered in the colour of the tank though really. I would anyway. I just didn't think that colour combo was available from the factory, but I was probably wrong!

It's just likely that the previous owner who changed the panels also updated the V5 at the same time, as I did. |

You can change the colour on the V5 to whatever you want, it doesn't matter what it was originally.

Yeah probably. I wonder if the previous owner got molested by their insurance company for doing it? You can imagine the conversation:
Insurance company: Has the bike been changed from its original factory spec? Owner: Well, it's now red instead of black. Insurance company: *rubs greedy little hands together* OK, let me just run that through the system... You know the rest. |
