Insurance for Firstimers

As you may know I have purchased my first bike a Ducati M800 and am looking for insurance when I pass my test in August anyone know of any good first time insurance companies as you can imagine I think it will be pretty high!! but that doesnt bother me although I would like to get the cheapest one possible!!

Good choice, you wont be disappointed.

Some insurers wouldnt insure me, but Last July I insured my M800S for £540ish fully comp with £400 excess through Carol Nash, I got breakdown assistance with that as well.
I had 0 NCB, had only just got my license am over 40, Garage the bike, live in Preston and have 6 points.

This July Carol Nash wanted £378 however I paid £330 with only £175 excess and breakdown assistance through Ducati Insurance (its a Norwich Union policy). The only difference is that I now have 1yr NCB and have done an advanced rider training course.

I would shop around if I were you, Ducati insurance can be found in the links section of this site.
You will get extra discount with some insurers if you garage the bike, have an alarm on it and datatag it, having said that the standard immobiliser scored maximum points with Ducati.
Insurers also like advanced training and IAM/RoSPA qualifications so I would also consider that once you have got some miles under your belt

just renewed my insurance, Ducati Insurance (08704 106060) wanted £312 when Carole Nash, who I'd been with for the last 6 years, wanted £439!

Well Ducati quoted me £1,700 fully comp or £800 3rd Party and that was through a Norwich Union Policy! Bike worth 4,000 0 alarmed and immobilised garaged living in Orpington, Kent.

Keep shopping around, i guess mine was relatively cheap cos I am an old git.

I seem to recall seeing ads in MCN for firms who will deal with first timers.

my first big bike after my test was the s4.......... got quotes from £1100 to £1700 tpft.......... best i found was adrian flux based in kings lynn...... £700 tpft with no no-claims

Adrain Flux comes highly recommended by young drivers in my car club (MX5OC) so could be worth a buzz. Is it really worth paying 25% of the value of the bike every year? Crashing them doesn't cost too much... especially if you don't do it!

I got a quote this very morning from Carol Nash, on a 600, me and the missus, £189 tpft, zero ncb, bike in a garage. Renewed 550 Zephyr policy at the same time, £140.

When I was a lad, in 1980 my JOTA was £105 with NU. Thats £269 at todays rate. Being in the forces, I was sent to germany and the only insurance I could get was with a local company who wanted £1435.... That's about £3600 nowadays. Sadly the Lav had to go. Whatever you get, it's a bargain!!

I find clickqoute good and also rider support are now doing there own insurance too but i haven't had a quote off them yet.
I pay £160 fully comp with 2 years no claims.

Although the horse has probably bolted on this one, thought I would add my 2penneth........I found Bennetts quite ameniable......£170 TPFT for me M600.....31 years old No NCB, license for under a month, parked in a shed, no alarm/immobiliser.....couldn't quite afford the Fully Comp as that was about £450......but thought it was pretty good value....and only 16quid a month in installents.......
