The black ones are plastic as far as I know. My '98 M900 had a plastic one which snapped across a thin portion and not surprisingly Ducati replaced these with metal ones of much superior design, somewhere between '98 and 2000.
I think the metal ones are the more common now, as they survive. Bear in mind that any plastic one that you might find now, will be at least 20 years old and even more brittle. I would go for a metal one and paint it black if the colour really mattered.

Ditto; Same thing happened with my original plastic choke lever on my '79 Mirage, first time I used it it snapped clean off!

Ah! I'd forgotten that. So it might have been my '92 750SS that I snapped the clip on?
My Y2K 750SS has a fat rubber strap. So they might have been using metal ones on Monsters before '98 for all I know.

A metal one is the one to go for, imho. they were very similar or maybe the same as the early 750/900SS ones. I can't remember. I seem to recall mine were metal and I'm talking early '93/94 SS as I had both and don't recall them being plastic. The later Terblancche style SS were rubber bands for sure as was some of the tank too. Nasty, they ruined the SS style with that restyle IMHO, although having ridden one they are much better behaved with the EFI.

I agree with you about the Terblancche SS. I find mine ever more repulsive the more I look at it, I keep it covered up as much as possible. I haven't even started it up in my possession let alone ridden it, and I won't until it's no longer an SS..
The '92 was a little firecracker though, but even though I was much younger then, I was still too old for it.

Ok I’ve just been offered a metal one but stupidly turned it down I wasn’t aware the original was plastic. I was going for original look the black one had indentations in it. I suppose I should go cap in had to the guy giving me the metal one and paint it.thanks lads.
