Bolt for heel guards, S2R 800???

I am replacing the alloy heel guards on my 06 S2R 800. The bolts don't want to come undone, I am trying to use a 'number 3'(mm I assume) allen key; is this correct? or is it a torx? The bolt metal seems to be 'soft' and the tool is spinning in the hole!!
Any advice?

Cheers,
Jim.

I had same thing and ended up getting an air powered cut off wheel and cutting a slot across the top then using a big screwdriver. Bolt came out easily. bu**erd the bolt up though .....

I dont I am afraid. I have a box of new stainless bolts and I had some in there. I am sure there are some more intelligent people on here than me to help with that.

Hi
had the same trouble with mine (s2r 1000) drilled a couple out but found it easiest thing was as mark said cut a slot in the head & get a good fitting flat screwdriver & they came out fairly easily . The original screws seemed to be very soft & the small allen key just rounded them off straight away . you need m5 button head screws to replace originals i had some stainless ones & just cut them down to same length as originals dont forget to give the ones your trying to get out a bit of wd40 first but cut a slot & they should come out .

impact driver works better than a screwdriver

penetrating oil on threads helps

and use copperslip on the threads when you reassemble so its easier next time
