Request for your help - only a click needed
Hi guys,
As most of you know I live over in Froggy land near the motorbike capital of France ... Le Mans and am Admin of www.MotoLeMans.com (the largest bike forum in Sarthe). Last Friday one of our biking family lost his life due to an unfortunate accident - he was on his way to enjoy the historic "Friday night Run" at Le Mans. An experienced biker, circuit racer and stunter, he was pulling a wheelie when he got spooked by a car pulling out of a parking area. He lost control, mounted the kerb and he and the bike collided with a lamp post - he died at the scene. Yes you could say it was his fault and you're probably right - he chanced his luck and lost. We can't bring him back but we are trying to avoid more needless deaths like his. How you ask - the problem we have is that the Friday night Runs are illegal and as such open to abuse. We are trying to petition the Prefecture du Mans (local authority) to grant us the right to hold a meeting every Friday night where we can meet, park and talk bikes - not to carry out stunts nor drag racing, a meet and greet for bikers. The problem we have is that any gathering over 5 bikes is classified as a "rassemblement" and without "permission" is illegal and attandees can be fined (100€) for attending. We've launched a virtual petition on facebook and are asking friends, family and bikers throughout the world to hit the "like" button so we can show the prefecture that we are not just a small bunch of dangerous bikers but a larger community that seeks to work with the law to avoid these illegal meets which cost lives. Thanks for taking the time to read this and if you have 5 secs and a facebook account click on the link below and hit the "like" button (top right). http://www.facebook.com/home.php?#!/...25294430858266 Many thanks, Tony (LVC)

Thanks Johnsy and Albie and anyone else who's hit the "like" button.
The latest this morning is that the Deputy "mayor" of Le Mans has issued a clamp-down on all "bike meets" stating that "all" of them are illegal. Given that the law states that over 5 bikes (or cars for that matter) in one place is a "rassemblement" and as such requires permission - this is going to get interesting - bearing in mind the last time they tried to impose an MOT control for bikes, the bikers took to and closed the streets in almost every major town in France. I'll keep this post live with updates for anyone that's interested and please can more of you hit the link then "Like" for the petition - we're already at 240 in less than a day and word is spreading. Thanks, Tony

Thanks guys/girls your support is greatly appreciated.
We're not trying to change the law (Mission Impossible) just to work within it - I love France but the expression of "liberte" has been somewhat lost over the years. We're just trying to get authorisation to meet regularly in large numbers without the hassle from "La Police" - a dream (which some of us a fighting for) is the authorisation to use part of the unused Le Mans airport as a secure area for stunts - it happened in Bordeaux. Bit of history for you - the Carole circuit just outside of Paris was created following the death of a young bike passenger called Carole Lefol who died aged 18 when her boyfriend (the biker) lost control of his bike during a "Run" and "Road race" back in 1977. Here's the video (in French - sorry, but you can get the giste) in case you wanted to know more. Carole ou l'Esprit Motard envoyé par Philippe-Chambon. - Futurs lauréats du Sundance. The "Runs" are nothing new and managed correctly can provide a safe exciting environment for everyone to enjoy - and that's what we're trying to acheive and avoid any more unecessary deaths.

You've got my vote: if people want to meet up and will act responsibly, why shouldn't you be allowed to?
