Returnable deposit (?) I never had demo rides myself, so not sure here.
I would imagine it's a standard procedure though. |

No, me neither. Have worked for a main Car dealer though and had many a test drive in cars but never asked for or been asked for any deposit/card details? Perhaps, as you say, it's standard for bikes?

It's to cover themselves in case you fail to return or to cover the £1k excess for any damage sustained, which you have signed up to before taking the test ride. I think it's normal practice.
