S4 Tank Bashed.....
I don't think this will polish out.......
Took it along to my "paintless dent removal" place this afternoon and it's no go for them. So looking at a repair/respray or a replacement tank.......don't suppose anyone has a mint red (don't need the stripe!) S4 tank they would like to sell me? |

There's a chappie selling some horrid silencers here.. https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DUCATI-M6...-/253793414244
He also appears to be breaking a perfectly good M1000 and not bothering to list it separately.... However the tank should fit yours.... If you fancy a change to Yellow for a while?

Would the yellow tank be a straight swap (fuel pump same etc?) if so I wouldn't be averse to a yellow bike (obviously it would be far slower). Thanks for finding Gazza
Brendan - I had a place in Cambuslang look at repairing the dent, the access through the filler cap (or lack of) was the main issue. |

Looks like the whole filler and surround comes out? If so whilst access is limited (scraped wrists from filter changes anyone?) it's quite a large opening and I would have thought someone could work some magic from the inside?

I don’t know the guy, but found this,
https://www.motorcycledentremoval.co.uk/ ‘No dent too large’, and looking at some they’ve repaired, he likes a challenge Last edited by damien666; 22-08-2018 at 09:33 AM.. |

Thanks guys, I'll give them a shout. In the meantime I've emailed the yellow tank guy on ebay for a price. Either way it's getting sorted..........

Alan I'm fairly confident that S4 and M1000 tanks interchange. Hopefully someone can confirm this?
Should be plug and play if the pump comes with it. Although you would need to swap the filler to keep your key. As DukeDesmo said. The filler comes right out and there's enough room to get your forearm in there, even if it's not very comfortable!

Going to investigate the dent repair route further. In the meantime the yellow tank is available for £250.00 and he's looking for £70.00 for the fairing and seat cover respectively.

I reckon with the damage being on a sharp swage line. If the dent guy can get it out to say 95% and it requires a minimal bit of fine finishing filler, it would be possible to prime immediate area and just blow in the red section and then clear the whole tank. Saving original stripe etc.

Update, after trying a few dent repair "wizard" types none seemed too keen an tackling a bike tank. So ended up at a local recommended body shop. Tank now back - dent pulled/stripe removed/resprayed and lacquered. £150.00 all in so well chuffed.

I think I might agree with you about the stripe ... on a red tank anyway.
That's a decent result. Any half-decent secondhand tank would've cost you at least that much and probably wouldn't have perfect paint. Not to mention somebody else's internal rust and/or hinge straining history. How's the colour match ? |
