S4 Immobilizer
Is it possible to change the instruments in a S4 2001 without reflashing the ECU?
As I see from the electrical diagram the only component of the immobilizer that sits in to the instrumenst is the code led. I think this is possible to relocate it in the new instruments. Any info? |

Yea, the immobilser unit is inside the clocks on these and needs to match with the ECU code.

I *think* MY2001 and MY2002 are different, but I could be wrong.
I'm fairly sure Avanti Race Parts have some info about S4 immobilisers on the website but I can't get onto it right now, I'll try and post a link later |

Ah, I just re-read the posts and Rob is correct, the '01 is different, the imobilizer isn't in the clocks for that year only so you should in theory be able to switch the clocks on an '01 with some other clocks from an '01 Monster that has the same setup, like the 900Sie for example, with no issues.
Avanti or Neil at Cornerspeed are of course the guys to talk to regarding this as I've not done it.

Avanti website is back online but I can’t find any info on the S4 immobiliser.
I’d try unlugging your instrument panel and see if it starts (I have a race ECU, without immobiliser, on one of my bikes and it runs with clocks unplugged) Otherwise email Avanti and ask the question directly http://www.avantiraceparts.co.uk/contact.php?id=7 |

On my S4 the speedo etc are all analogue and not digital, these clocks can be changed as they are not linked to the immobiliser, 2001 and some early 2002.
The later clocks with digital mileage and additional warning lights are all linked to the immobiliser. Hope this helps. |
