Fuel Leaking from overflows..

Stuck needle most likely culprit??

I am going for the most threads on a non working bike ever!

Float valve stuck or height incorrectly set. Try tapping the float bowl with the handle end of a screwdriver.

as above - am guessing it has stood unused for some time? it's unusual for both to leak at the same time though - is bike leaned over 'rather a lot' by any chance?

No, the bike was un-used for about 2 weeks.

Ok, so carbs apart and there is scum and general detritus floating in both float bowls. Also there is a bit of corrosion on the lids/caps.

Just done 30 min in the ultrasonic cleaner.

Hopefully this should help..

Check the main jets very carefully. That stuff blocks them real easy. Blow them out with an air line if blocked.

Might be worth draining/siphoning the fuel tank and checking for corrosion inside.
Screw top whiskey bottles make good receptacles, and the crud settles out allowing you to siphon off the clean stuff from above after a few days.
Also checking/replacing the fuel filter.
In fact, a clogged filter may have been contributing to your poor running at higher speeds by restricting the fuel flow. And the fuel pump won't have been having an easy time either if the filter's clogged.
