Are s4 Testsretta's any good ??

hi chaps
just a question about the S4 Testsretta engine ,is it a good engine is there anything to look out for ? ive been told its one of the best ,I had a go on my mates S4RS and i was wooed back to the old frame set up from my 1100s and ive got to admit iam thinking of looking for a s4 Testsretta ,i cant afford the S4RS but just might be able to go for the s4 Testsretta or do a deal with my 1100s
so are they good and reliable and are there any here for sale ?

It's the exact same engine as the later 999S deep sump model but with 50mm throttle bodies instead of 54mm on the sbk. I don't think there are any major known issues besides the usual caveats. Ducati Preston have a red one for 8k iirc and I saw a grey one on ebay the other week for 6k. Not many about as few were originally registered compared to the RS. I think there are about 50 on the DVLA database.

I’m lucky enough to have 1100 Evo and the S4RS. They are both brilliant but in very different ways, the Evo has so much low down torque you can have fun at lower speeds and really enjoy slower bends, although, because it’s light it spends a lot of time on one wheel, the S4RS is bonkers all the time and can out perform most riders on there sports bikes. It’s fantastic on a track day.

Ditch everything you own and get both

If you want something fairly close to the S4R tes then the later 06 996 S4R is more oversquare and makes a bit more power than the earlier ones. Having riidden both the S4RT and the S4 Foggy, if you want raw brutal power get s Foggy 916 or up spec S4 full termi. The testa is obs more powerful but more refined too, its more modern feeling. The S4 916 Foggy is basically an
Naked 888 on steroids more torque than a 916 but raw too.. All the S4 range is underated inho maybe a future classic muscle bikes.
