I think that the maintenance schedule (and its cost) was never sustainable and was very bad for the sport. BSB and WSB
BSB and WSB need privateers and they need them to be approaching competitive with the "works" teams, fans need the heroic underdog otherwise it is processional.
BSB has reigned back costs and is a lot better for it. But they could do more still.
Why do they permit qualifying tyres that last one and possibly two laps? The extra grip they provide needs suspension and set up changes and as far as the race is concerned has nothing to do with actual race pace.
The same applies to MotoGP - why have qualifying tyres.- the race is run on control tyres with maybe 2 or 3 dry compounds and intermediates or wets depending on circumstances.
