Ha ha. Yes I've told the parish council that they'll have a job keeping paint on it and to be very careful of oil as it might stain peoples clothes, so hopefully they will take my advice and leave it bare, even though it will go silver with age.
You might find that Osma oil works on your sister's gate, but you have to keep putting it on over the years.
