When I bought my 750 it was fitted with a large bellypan a bit like the one in the first post.
I reckoned that it retained a lot of heat from the exhaust.
This was particularly noticeable when pulling up at traffic lights etc whereupon great waves of heat would rise up from the engine.
I have no idea whether this heat retention still took place when on the move at decent speeds. I suspect that perhaps it wasn't such a problem but anyway .....
I removed that bellypan and replaced it with a smaller one like the one in Jam911's post (which I believe are called the "Monza" style).
This does not encase the exhaust and therefore doesn't retain so much heat.
The difference was very noticeable and the waves of rising heat at traffic lights were no longer present.
Make of that what you will but personally, I'm not a fan of large bellypans which encase the exhaust.
