I've seen people reporting phantom flashing (
) before. Because the flasher 'relay' is within the instruments, I think the general consensus is that it's caused by corrosion or moisture within the clocks themselves.
I seem to remember Brad the Bike Boy saying that he'd seen it on several bikes and advised the owners to either just put up with it or change the clocks.
