I had to strip down my M800 instruments,which are the same, as I had near enough the same problems as you, it turned out a couple of the diodes???, (I am sorry I don't know the tech term for the tiny square things) had came off and were rattling about in the cluster. A friend who was a BT technician, and who can virtually sign his name in solder, solder them back on for me and they worked no problem.

It was easy to get the back off and the needles came off as described here , post 6
