Well that's a sort of happy ending, if not quite an ending yet?
The seller did give an honest appraisal from what he knew in the first place and has made a good response to the folk from this club who gave him more information. It's a good example of friendly people policing.
However whether or not the mains or big ends are faulty or have been replaced is still not known for sure and I think £1500 is still a bit rich for a bike with potentially a lot of work needed. Bottom end failures are usually due to a lubrication failure and that would effect the rest of the engine and gearbox to some degree also.
I would be trying to contact the previous owner to try and establish if the work had been done or not and by whom, that would be a whole new ball game.
