Pictures need to be hosted outside the forum.
I use
https://imgbb.com/ That one is good as you don't have to resize your pictures and it's free.
Upload your picture, then you'll see a page with all the codes. Select BBCode fully linked.
Then copy and paste the line onto your post.
As to making it easier, we have a team working hard on a brand new website which will be bang up to date. It'll be a while yet and you'll be warned when it's imminent. Change is a comin'.
