The recommended way to withdraw and insert the clutch pushrod is via the slave end, but they often stick in the pressure plate and end up coming out with that if you remove the pressure plate. I now always make sure the rod goes into the top hat in the pressure plate with a bit of grease. There is an O-ring in the top hat, so I suppose rubber grease would be ideal but I normally use moly'.
If you have the famed anti-rotation pin in the rod, the only way that's coming out or going in is through the slave end... And a good reason to keep the top hat O-ring lubed.
