Not sure if your light assembly is the same as on the early bikes which are a very basic 6.3mm faston terminal but I simply took the +ve feed from the tail light wire (not brake light obviously) and the -ve from the ground using auto type 'piggy back' crimps.
I was going to use an 'Add a Circuit' which piggy backs a suitable fused feed (in this case the lighting circuit) but I didn't want to cut into the fuse box (which is under the seat on my 900) lid and as the Garmin loom was already protected by an inline fuse I thought it un-necessary.
Plus this way I have not cut into the original loom or fixed anything permanently by soldering so therefore left the Garmin loom easily removable should I wish.
